As far as RTI is concerned MJF is the prime mover in Bangladesh context. Today there has been an Act titled, ‘Right To Information Act, 2009’ and MJF played historic role from the very beginning.
• RTI related campaigns have become an integral part of MJF ranging from observing Right To Know Day to organizing different types of events. It goes for advocacy at policy level. MJF supported initiatives are carried out through the partners across the country. There has been RTI Forum where MJF works with other organizations to promote RTI. .
• RTI is a new theme in Bangladesh in response to the urgency of promoting and establishing good governance. MJF, along with Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC), has undertaken a pilot program (on RTI) in Manikganj District. A number of Designated Officers have come across RTI training under this pilot initiative. 5 NGOs are working at community level so that the citizens would be geared-up in terms of seeking information from the govt. offices. The experience of this piloting, be this is positive or negative, would enable the authority to go for revision, incorporation or exclusion as far as its implementation (countrywide) is concerned.
• MJF arranges training on RTI to capacitate its partners. Through such capacity developments training the concerned organizations are getting to know the ABC of RTI. This training includes staff from different levels. They are instructed to appoint Designated Officer as per the law. They get support in formulating Information Disclosure Policy as well.
• Mainstreaming of RTI is another focus of MJF. MJF staffs extend their support so that the beneficiaries of the partners can get to know the importance of RTI. These beneficiaries can take the advantages of RTI through applying for information. The door of MJF is open for any organization, forum or consortium if any form of support is required.
• A range of IEC Materials have been developed by MJF. This has published an easy version of the Act. There has been a hand book. A number of thought provoking posters, festoons, leaflets, stickers etc has been distributed.
